Children across Gwent took part in National Standards Cycle Training during the recent half term holidays.
Courses were held at Caldicot Fire Station, Ebbw Vale Fire Station and at the Edlogan Way Road Safety Resource Centre in Cwmbran.
Once the bicycles had been checked over and any minor problems sorted out, the cyclists ran through basic riding skills in the safety of the station yard. The second session saw the cyclists out on the roads surrounding the venues, getting hands-on training in how to deal with junctions, side roads and parked cars.
Andrew Burns, of Cycle Training Wales, reported that all the children were enthusiastic and keen to learn, with very high standards of bicycle skills and behaviour.
The courses were delivered by Cycle Training Wales, in conjunction with the Local Authorities.
