You might be fooled to thinking this looks like a town car park on a busy shopping day or a traffic jam on a Bank Holiday.  Nothing could be further from the truth.

This is on school property and all these cars are parked.  Many of the cars are unoccupied as parents wait for their children.  No-one can get in and no-one can get out.

Children have to negotiate these vehicles as they enter and leave the school and many of them are too small to be seen by drivers.  So, what if there was an emergency?  What if an ambulance or fire engine needed access?  What if your child was in danger?

There was one way to find out.

A special event was organised involving the children, teachers, Police, Fire Service and Road Safety.  This operation, one of the first of its kind, set out to put into action a “drill” to see if a Fire Engine could gain access to the school.  The results were dismal and the emergency vehicle could do little more than hover outside the school gates.  Just as well this was an enactment and not the real thing.

Junior Road Safety Officers at The Dell make one simple request,
