Marshfield Primary Pupils Complete Kerbcraft Road Safety Scheme

The Pupils from year One at Marshfield Primary School have just completed the Kerbcraft Road Safety Scheme.  They are the second year group at Marshfield to benefit from the scheme funded by the
Welsh Assembly Government, and provided by Newport City Council and Capita Symonds Road Safety Team.

The Kerbcraft scheme is designed to daltevelop good road safety skills in young children and prepares them for the future when they are using roads without the assistance of adults.  The scheme aims to develop an understanding of road hazards by teaching the children the dangers of crossing near junctions and parked cars, and how to deal with these situations safely.

altThe training scheme lasts for several weeks; the children are taken out in small groups and are given practical instruction on how to deal with every day hazards like crossing a road, which to an adult with years of experience is not a problem.

altThe Kerbcraft scheme has been running successfully for over six years in Newport but could not function without the assistance of parent/grandparent volunteers, who give up a couple hours of  their time each week to pass on their skills, knowledge and experience to these vulnerable road users.  Volunteers are always needed and full training is provided, so if you have just a few hours to spare why not volunteer for the next Kerbcraft scheme at Marshfield Primary School.

If you are interested in volunteering to deliver Kerbcraft phone Cath Levy, Newport’s Kerbcraft Co-ordinator on 07876356274 or
e-mail cath.levy@capita.co.uk.
