Road Safety at Torfaen Playschemes
Road Safety Education did not stop because it was the school holidays! Children across Torfaen attending various playschemes took part in road safety workshops looking at the importance of wearing a cycling helmet.
Using an egg helmet they discovered how well protected the egg was when dropped from 1 meter and compared this to an unprotected egg – spat! They then looked at the comparisons between the egg helmet and a cycling helmet, same material, straps, padding and discussed how much safer they would be wearing a helmet when riding their bike.
Thanks to all the organisers and children for taking part in the sessions.
Torfaen Play Days
Children in Torfaen were able to show how much they know about road safety at 2 special playdays. The first occasion was on Wed 5th August, National Playday. Children were invited to free fun day out and the boating lake in Cwmbran. The second day was at Pontypool Park on Wed 19th August, where all Torfaen Playscheme groups gathered for an end of playscheme extravaganza!
Road Safety were there with lots of information and leaflets and the children were asked to answer a road safety questions to win a prize. Thanks to everyone who helped and thanks very much to Torfaen Play for inviting us.
Road Safety at Zoopadoopa Indoor Play Centre
Children at Zoopadoopa play centre were invited to take part in Road Safety activities on 2 days over the summer. The children were very enthusiastic acting out crossing the roads using “street feet”, colouring in and doing puzzles. The children were very keen to tell me everything they knew about staying safe and when asked who had told them, they answered with Mrs Tufty! It was great to hear how much the children had learnt from Mrs Tufty not just Stop, Look, Listen, Think and Hold a grown ups hand, but also about wearing seatbelts in the car, playing in safe places and wearing cycling helmets. The sessions were also a great opportunity to speak to parents and give out information to them. Thanks to all the staff at Zoopadoopa for their help and support and all those who took part in having fun.
