Childrens Traffic Club

The Children’s Traffic Club is for 3 and 4 year olds and their parents, carers or teachers. It helps children learn important road safety skills in a fun and exciting way. There are 6 colourful books that are sent to the child in the post every three months.

Due to funding from the Welsh Assembly government and your Local Unitary Authority the scheme is completely free for all three year olds in Gwent!

How Does It Work?

  • The Children’s Traffic Club aims to help reduce the large number of children who are hurt on our roads every day.
  • The Club is for children and their parents, to use together.
  • 3-4 year old children are old enough to understand the messages and still young enough to learn safe habits that can last a lifetime.
  • Most important of all, The Children’s Traffic Club is FUN, colourful and encouraging - the best way for any child to learn!

What you get when you join?

  • The first ‘book pack’ and certificate arrives soon after your child is registered. The rest of the books follow automatically, every three months.
  • The 6 books are full of stickers, colourful pictures to talk about, stories to read and fun activities to do.
  • Members can take part in free competitions to win some great prizes such as T-shirts, colouring books, storybooks, song tapes and much more.

Help Your Child learn by:

  • Telling them the short stories, while they Look at the pictures.
  • Talking about the pictures and stories and what they mean.
  • Doing simple activities with them, that reminds them of the main messages.
  • Help them Practice what they have learned every time you are out together.
  • And Praise them every time they remember.

What other parents have said:

  • ‘It gave me lots of ideas I hadn’t thought of before - new ways of teaching and explaining’
  • ‘He was listening to what I was saying and asking me questions - usually he’ll not sit and listen to anybody’
  • ‘It’s a great idea, my son loved it and can’t wait to get the next book’
  • ‘It was aimed at the kids - it wasn’t technical or anything-just simple and they could understand the pictures’

How Do I Register My Three Year Old?

As long as your child is registered with a doctor in Gwent, they will automatically receive an invitation envelope through the post on or around their third Birthday. This will be clearly recognisable as it is bright yellow and carries the Children’s Traffic Club logo on the front.

You need to fill in the small application form and return it in the freepost envelope. Your child should receive their first book within the month. The books are specially designed to match the children’s educational, emotional and psychological development, so the rest of the books will then be sent out automatically, one every three months.

Books are available in both English and Welsh - just fill in the tick box on the application form.

To receive a registration envelope or if you have any further questions regarding the Children’s Traffic Club in Greater Gwent please contact: Anna Smith on 01633 463269 or email Anna Smith.
