Language and Play – or ”Walkie Talkie”
Out and About with Undy Nursery
The Monmouthshire Road Safety Team went back to Nursery School at Undy. Parents, grandparents and children spent the day with them learning about Road Safety for the young – and not so young.
Kerbcraft, the Children’s Traffic Club, Mrs Tufty - it was a packed day for trying out new skills. In the case of the grown ups, revisitng the time when they were young pedestrians – and as one Dad admitted, a member of the Tufty Club himself.
Indoors, the chidren played games, coloured pictures, puzzled over puzzles and played “safe” driving on the street mat. Outdoors, in the play area, a lollypop lady did her best to encourage the young drivers to stop at the Zebra Crossing by means of inventive use of the lollypop stick. Meanwhile, on the road, the grown-ups were mobilised into action as they were shown how children are trained in Kerbcraft skills.
And there was more…as children and grown-ups sang enthusisatically about wearing seatbelts with Mrs Tufty.
The children were exceptional students as were the parents and grandparents.
But this is not the end, only the beginning of keeping children safe from the start.
