For the third year running, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Leisure Lifestyle Group ran the Race for Health day at Parc Cwm Darran Country Park , Deri, near Bargoed. Capita Symonds Road Safety Team joined forces with the Lifestyle Group at the event and presented their Cycle for Fun activities.
Held in glorious sunshine, the day was a great success with over 300 people attending. One of those taking part in the ride around the lake was Councillor Harry Andrews, leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council. ‘This has been a really enjoyable day out,’ he said. ‘It has been a great opportunity for families to spend time together, to talk to all ages about cycling issues, and to show the need for a healthy lifestyle. Cycle routes have played an important part in the event. Most people living in Caerphilly County Borough are within 1 mile of a cycle route and it’s events like these that are aimed to encourage people to get on their bikes and start using these picturesque and safe tracks. We have had vital support from the folks from Sustrans, who provided cycles and helmets for those who hadn’t brought their own bikes.’
