A red letter day and a jewel in the calendar for Llanvihangel Crucorney School.  Staff, Governors, Friends, Pupils and Ex-Pupils of the school came together to celebrate a ruby anniversary without equal.

The ruby is considered to be the most powerful gem in the universe representing contentment and peace, friendship, vitality and royalty. All these characteristics were very much in evidence.

The first ever Headteacher, Mr Haywood, took everyone on a journey. He remembered the many events in the school’s history which formed the character and ethos of all who have links with it.

Neither was it a back seat for Road Safety. Mr Haywood reminisced about the times that the children had taken part in cycling competitions. In the days of yore, bicycles were picked up in a lorry to enable pupils to compete.

Classrooms were bedecked to represent a significant decade and amongst the treasures on display was a framed certificate of the RAC Good Practice in Road Safety Award.

The children played no small part in this event and provided the X Factor in renditions from Elton John, Abba and “Grease” and Maybe a car that’s like “grease lightning” will serve as a warning to all potential teenage racers!
