“COW…ONLY STWPD COWZ TXT N DRIVE”

Gwent Police took "Cow" on tour yesterday to mark the start of this year´s Not in my Neighbourhood Week.

“Cow” is the story of Cassie Cowan, a teenage girl who gets distracted sending a text whilst driving. What follows is a horrific car crash which kills, amongst others, her two best friends.

It is deliberately graphic and realistic, showing the harrowing and life-changing consequences of road crashes caused by people using their mobile phone behind the wheel.

The film made by Gwent Police, with the help of the International Film School at the University of Wales, Newport, is aimed at 17-24 year olds and was shown on a big screen in three locations across Gwent to raise awareness of the dangers of using is mobile phone while driving.

If you are caught using a mobile phone behind the wheel you could receive 3 points on your licence and up to a £1000 fine.

While driving it is illegal to:

  •  Talk on a handheld mobile phone
  •  Text
  •  Activate, search through or use any of the applications on a

handheld mobile phone

  • You may also be breaking the law if you are caught texting or talking on a mobile phone while stationary with your engine running - i.e. in a traffic jam/waiting at traffic lights

  • If you cause a road traffic collision whilst using a mobile phone you could not only face far more serious charges but also put your own life, or the life of someone else, at risk.

Do you still think taking a call or reading a text is so urgent?
