Being Seen

Autumn and winter months present a serious hazard to all road users because of reduced visibility due to the shorter days/longer nights and bad weather conditions. Children travelling to school often wear dark coats or school uniforms - this makes them difficult to be seen by other road users.

How you can improve your child´s safety

When possible, buy them clothes in bright colours for daytime. Fluorescent colours are the brightest colours of all. However, after dark, fluorescent colours are no better than other colours. It is recommended that reflective strips or other reflective accessories be added to your child´s outer clothing. Alternatively ask them to wear or hold something white. For best all round protection, choose clothes or accessories that combine fluorescent colours with reflective material. Brightly coloured objects such as scarves, umbrellas or hats and caps can assist in brightening up a dark school uniform, so ask to child to wear or carry some of these.
