Crossing The Road

Although dangerous for everybody, younger children are particulary at risk when crossing the road, as they have not fully developed their skills of judging vehicles´ speed and distance.
How you can improve your child´s safety

Take them out and teach them how to cross the road safely.

The Green Cross Code will help:

  1. Find a safe place to cross
(like pedestrian crossings or, if there are no crossings near, a place where they can clearly see and where drivers can see them).
  2. Always stop first at the kerb
(or the edge of the road if there is no pavement).
  3. Look and listen carefully for traffic all round
(remember traffic can be hidden or appear from driveways etc.)
  4. When there is no traffic near, walk straight across to the other side. Keep looking and listening for traffic as you cross.

Be sure to tell your children that they are not the only vulnerable road user group. Elderly people often don´t recognise dangers as quickly as they once did so advise your child to be cautious of their movements.
