Safety In The Car

In the event of any crash both you and your child´s risk of being killed or seriously injured dramatically increases if they are not wearing a seatbelt

  1. By law, you and your child have to wear a seat belt if one is fitted. Children under three can only sit in the front if they are strapped in to a proper child seat.
  2. Even at low speeds, having your child in an incorrectly fitted seat could increase their risk of injury.
  3. Protect your children by using a properly fitted, purpose made child car seat which meets the current safety standards and is appropriate for your child´s weight and height. Never use a childseat in the front seat of a car fitted with airbags.
  4. The law states that a child from it´s 3rd birthday up to 135cm (about 4´ 5") (or 12th birthday, whichever they reach first) must use the correct child restraint where seat belts are fitted in either the front or back seat.  However, we recommend that a child up to 5´ (150cm tall) should not travel without a child restraint of some sort.  Untill then, the adult belt will not fit safely and they are safest using a suitable child seat or booster cushion.
  5. It is best for younger children to travel in the rear seats, especially if your car has front passenger air bags fitted.
  6. Never allow children to travel in the luggage area of an estate or hatchback - this area is designed to crumple in the event of a crash.
