Crucial Crew now has a regular spot in the curriculum calendar of schools throughout South East Wales. The programme involves Road Safety Officers from the area addressing Year 6 pupils on how to keep safe on and near the roads. Displays are set up and presentations conducted with the intention of educating the students on key aspects of road safety shortly before they move on to comprehensive school, where they often encounter new hazards on the daily journey to their new school.
Each year Crucial Crew focuses on a different broad topic area that is particularly relevant to Year 6 pupils. This past school year the agenda has concentrated on the issue of wearing, and consequences of not wearing seatbelts. Curriculum topics such as speed, stopping distances and forces are included in the presentation as well as discussion regarding the legal aspects and responsibilities of seat belt usage.
