Does this sound like your School?
"It´s about 8:50 in the morning, the scene is chaotic, the roads are full of traffic and the school entrance is blocked. Engines are noisy; adults are driving around crazily looking for a space to park. Pupils are darting about between parked cars and traffic, just trying to get to school on time!"
How long will it be before a child is involved in a serious Road Traffic Collision?
Maybe you can help your community reduce the likelihood of Road Traffic Accidents by becoming a Junior Road Safety Officer or JRSO School?
The scene above presents many problems that you could help to tackle. Can you see what they are?
As a Junior Road Safety Officer it would be your job to help make everyone in your school and your community more aware of the dangers of the road. You can do this by organising competitions, decorating display boards, talking in assemblies and designing posters!
There are currently 42 Schools taking part in the Junior Road Safety Officer Scheme in Greater Gwent. Each School needs a ´Principal Teacher´; two-year six pupils and two-year five pupils, who are nominated to become Junior Road Safety Officers. That means there are at least 168 JRSOs in Gwent!
If your school is interested in taking part in this free scheme, please contact me, your Junior Road Safety Officer Co-ordinator, Anna Smith on 01633 463269 or email the Road Safety Team through the Contact Us Page of Roadstuff
