Seatbelt Surveys

During ‘Child Safety Week’ 19 – 23 June, you could carry out a ‘Seatbelt Survey’ outside your school. This survey will tell you how many adults and children are breaking the law and travelling unsafely in their car!

It’s very easy:

  1. Just download and print lots of these templates
  2. Grab a pencil and a clipboard
  3. Grab a mate; it’s always easier with two!
  4. Make sure you both wear something fluorescent and reflective
  5. And stand on the pavement; in a safe spot, approved by your teacher, where you have a good view of inside the vehicles

All you have to do now is record the evidence! One of you needs to shout out what you see, and the other one need to write it on the sheet; for example,’ Driver, Wearing’ and ‘Rear seat, Not Wearing!’ OR ´Woman Front Tick’ and ‘Girl Back Cross!’

When you’ve finished you could add up the numbers and write a report for your Road Safety Officer, it may even be printed in the local newspapers!

Good Luck and ‘Be Safe Be Seen!’
